POSITION SUMMARY:
This role is integral to the mission of the YMCA, a prominent nonprofit organization focused on community enhancement through youth development, health initiatives, and social responsibility. The Youth Development Staff play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and supervision of children within the Child Watch and Family Activity Center. They collaborate to design and implement educational and enrichment programs for youth, engaging closely with families to ensure optimal care for children aged 6 weeks to 11 years.
We are seeking a candidate available Monday through Thursday from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM to work with our youngest members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitates or leads the development and execution of engaging programs, which may include activities such as arts and crafts, games, sports, and special events for youth and families.
- Maintains accurate participant attendance records while fostering positive engagement among participants.
- Supervises and supports a safe environment that promotes positive emotional and social growth for youth.
- Understands and applies all safety, emergency, and child protection policies, responding to emergencies in line with YMCA protocols.
- Encourages ongoing communication with families regarding their child's participation, behaviors, and other relevant topics, connecting them to YMCA resources.
- Participates in assigned committees, attends regular staff meetings, and actively promotes the YMCA within the community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Preferred two years of experience working with children aged 6 weeks to 11 years.
- Completion of YMCA-specific training upon hiring.
- Ability to build positive, authentic relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Regularly required to move by bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Frequently exposed to communicable diseases, necessitating regular handwashing and use of disinfectants.
- Must remain stationary, upright, and alert for extended periods.
- Regular interaction with youth requires effective oral communication and active listening skills.
- Must be able to lift and assist children weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally required to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, with the ability to adjust focus.
- Noise levels in the work environment are typically moderate.

COMPENSATION: Starting pay is $14.00 per hour.
