Job Summary
Auburn University's Office of the Senior Vice President for Research and Economic Development is seeking applications for the role of Senior Officer for Sponsored Programs. This position will oversee a team of Sponsored Programs Officers and manage a variety of sponsored programs administration tasks related to externally funded research, educational initiatives, outreach, and extension activities at the institutional level across Auburn University, the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station, and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Responsibilities include reviewing, approving, and negotiating contract and grant terms, developing proposals, managing contracts and grants, overseeing equipment funded by contracts and grants, and providing guidance on regulatory, policy, and procedural matters associated with these activities. This role necessitates regular communication and collaboration with stakeholders across the campus and with federal, state, industry, nonprofit, and other sponsoring organizations.

Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate, advise, and assist faculty and staff on extramural proposals for research, educational initiatives, outreach, and extension activities to ensure compliance with federal, state, university, and sponsor regulations.
- Prepare, review, and negotiate complex contracts and legal documents for the Office of Sponsored Programs, including various types of sponsored research agreements and related contracts.
- Evaluate and apply federal, sponsor, and university policies to determine acceptable award conditions, addressing issues such as conflict of interest, export control, and intellectual property.
- Manage award change requests and assist with the acquisition and management of sponsor-funded equipment and materials.
- Provide regulatory guidance to faculty and staff, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations governing sponsored research.
- Maintain proficiency in federal regulations related to sponsored programs and stay updated on developments in research administration.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures in response to regulatory changes.
- Deliver training for staff within the Office of Sponsored Programs, including onboarding and ongoing education.
- Exercise signature authority for non-financial matters as delegated by the Senior Vice President.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as STEM, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline.
- 8 years of experience in regulatory compliance, contract negotiation, research management, or a related area.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Advanced knowledge of university, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Experience in a higher education setting, particularly in interpreting laws and regulations relevant to sponsored programs.
