Position Overview:

The Senior Analyst of Financial Reporting collaborates closely with the Accounting and Finance Operations teams to generate consolidated financial statements and manage external reporting obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compile monthly consolidation working papers and reports for the Finance Leadership team.
  • Support the preparation and examination of regulatory filings in accordance with the Corporation's obligations as a Foreign Private Issuer on the New York Stock Exchange, along with other public filing requirements for various listed debt securities. Review supporting schedules for specific note disclosures.
  • Evaluate certain monthly working papers produced by Finance Operations.
  • Prepare and review audit working papers while addressing inquiries from both external and internal auditors.
  • Analyze journal entries and prepare insights related to all major financial statement components. Ensure the accuracy of financial reporting through the review of less complex analyses.
  • Oversee and manage annual and quarterly financial statements for statutory reporting purposes.
  • Assist in resolving intricate accounting reconciliations.
  • Contribute to the review, analysis, and documentation of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Support the redevelopment of processes and enhancement of internal controls.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
  • Engage in finance transformation initiatives to streamline the financial close and reporting processes by leveraging best practices and technology.
  • Provide training to new team members, including those in Finance Operations, as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, Accounting, Management, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Certification in a recognized professional accounting body (e.g., CPA).
  • A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in audit and/or industry, with exposure to financial statement preparation and disclosure.
  • Experience with foreign currency and intercompany transactions.
  • Strong understanding of complex account reconciliations, including the resolution of reconciling items.
  • Knowledge of and experience with internal controls and process redevelopment.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Excellent communication skills to lead and mentor less experienced staff members.
  • Able to work effectively under pressure with strict deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Robust analytical skills.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with public companies and SEC requirements.
  • Some familiarity with multi-office organizations.
  • Knowledge of financial systems software (e.g., NetSuite).

Job Demands and Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional overtime may be necessary to meet deadlines or accommodate time zone differences.

Compensation and Benefits:

Seaspan's total compensation is rooted in our pay-for-performance philosophy, rewarding team members who exemplify our high-performance culture. The hiring range for this position is $90,000 - $100,600 CAD annually. The specific base salary offered will be aligned with the candidate's experience, job-related skills, and internal pay equity. In addition to base salary, we provide a competitive total rewards package, which includes an annual performance-based bonus, a comprehensive benefits package (extended health, dental, life, and disability insurance), retirement savings plan matching, and other company-provided rewards.
