About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Surgical Services to join our team at Lubbock Heart & Surgical Hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review, revise, and approve the next day's surgery schedule to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Coordinate the set-up of surgery suites for cases, including ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Work with the scheduling clerk to develop the next day's schedule, checking for accuracy and conflicts with staff or equipment.
  • Act as liaison between physicians and the staff of the Operating Room (OR).
  • Coordinate the function of the OR, including supervision of personnel, evaluations, and orientation for new personnel.
  • Manage all aspects of department operations for surgical services, including budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Foster growth and development of management and leadership skills in surgical services managers and team members.
  • Maintain effective communication and coordination of activities between surgical services team members.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and monitor annual hospital and operational budgets.
  • Accurately identify and expeditiously resolve issues affecting the delivery of surgical services.
  • Develop standards of care and performance for surgical services and implement a mechanism for ongoing evaluation and improvement.
  • Actively promote a positive image of the hospital and surgical services with the public and professional community.
  • Communicate clearly, openly, and honestly in verbal and written formats.
  • Maintain expertise with computer-based programs and utilize reports to improve surgical services performance.
  • Assess own performance using insight and constructive feedback to set goals for enrichment of knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain a positive work environment for staff and physicians and promote team efforts.
  • Ensure adequate staffing to achieve departmental function and purpose.
  • Adhere to established departmental operations and salary budgets.
  • Ensure performance evaluations are current and reviewed by employees during annual performance improvement interviews.
  • Analyze nursing care provided in the department related to established standards of care.
  • Assign patient care responsibilities based on patient needs and abilities of available staff.
  • Ensure monitoring of the Environment of Care is performed on a daily basis.
  • Knowledgeable of proper handling of narcotics, sign-out, and return according to hospital policies and DEA guidelines.
  • Follow up/investigate all variances in narcotic administration/counting and surgery-related incidents.
  • Demonstrate continued competence in assessing, treating, and caring for individuals based on age-specific needs.
  • Encourage staff and self to participate in monthly Performance Improvement data collection.
  • Communicate patient information to assure confidentiality and continuity of care.
  • Document all patient information according to established standards of care, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop Surgical Services policies and procedures.
  • Interact with all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees in a manner to ensure a positive and professional environment.
