LOCATION: Yonkers, NY
SUPERVISOR: Program Coordinator
SALARY: Competitive
POSITION SUMMARY: The Community Engagement Specialist will proactively and innovatively connect with individuals experiencing homelessness through outreach initiatives within the community. This role involves responding to community needs and collaborating with law enforcement, local businesses, and various organizations to provide essential services to those living on the streets. Additionally, the specialist will work in partnership with the Yonkers Triage Team. Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is mandatory.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work as part of a dedicated team to reach out to homeless adults in the Yonkers area.
- Engage with individuals experiencing homelessness, encouraging them to access available services.
- Document interactions and maintain detailed case notes, ensuring safety assessments and providing advocacy.
- Be present in designated areas with a high concentration of street homelessness.
- Conduct assessments to evaluate individual needs.
- Foster relationships and communicate effectively with the Yonkers community.
- Input data into the organization’s database accurately.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on daily activities and client progress.
- Operate outreach vehicles as necessary.
- Assist in canvassing for vulnerable individuals during extreme weather conditions.
- Participate actively in team meetings and discussions.
- Availability to work on holidays as required for certain shifts.
- Establish connections with mental health, substance abuse, and medical service providers, as well as emergency shelters.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma is required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record that meets agency insurance requirements.
- Experience working with individuals facing mental health challenges or homelessness is preferred.
- This role requires the ability to walk and spend significant time outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google applications is essential.
