Job Overview

Klamath Orthopedic Clinic is seeking a motivated individual to fill the role of Medical Assistant.

Position Summary: Under the guidance of the Clinical Supervisor and Medical Assistant Lead, the Medical Assistant collaborates with the healthcare provider to facilitate daily patient care tasks, including assessment, treatment, and education within the clinic environment. Responsibilities include preparing medications for in-office procedures, conducting bandage changes, suture removals, brace fittings, and cast removals under the direct supervision of the healthcare provider. Additionally, the role encompasses clerical and receptionist tasks as required, fostering effective communication with the registration, business office, clinical staff, and providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform initial medical history assessments, including blood pressure checks, allergy inquiries, and medication reviews; accurately document findings in the patient's medical record and fulfill all Meaningful Use criteria as per clinical standards.
  • Conduct wound care procedures, such as suture and staple removals, adhering to OSHA regulations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in applying various durable medical equipment (DME) and splints/braces.
  • Assist patients in scheduling follow-up appointments and prepare orders for laboratory tests and other diagnostic evaluations.
  • Address and resolve patient inquiries and messages promptly; document all communications in the patient's record.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient examination rooms between appointments to ensure comfort and safety, in compliance with infection control protocols; ensure adequate supply levels.
  • Complete both administrative and clinical tasks that contribute to the smooth operation of the clinic.
  • Perform various administrative duties in support of patient care and clinic efficiency, including answering phones, photocopying, faxing, and completing necessary forms.
  • Prepare patients for assessment and treatment by the medical provider in a timely manner.
  • Ensure proper care and maintenance of instruments, equipment, and work areas.
  • Prepare and send approved prescriptions to pharmacies or patients under the direction of the medical provider.
  • Accurately prepare injections as directed by the medical provider.
  • Possess knowledge of clinical orthopedic terminology and procedures.
  • Review medical histories, allergies, and medications while adhering to HIPAA standards.
  • Assist patients over the phone as needed in the absence of the physician.
  • Provide telephone counseling to patients under the direct supervision of the medical provider.
  • Document all care and education provided to patients accurately.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates must successfully fulfill all essential duties. A background check and drug screening are required.

Education and Experience:

A High School Diploma or GED, along with two years of relevant experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions and correspondence; capable of writing simple correspondence and effectively presenting information.

Reasoning Skills:

Ability to apply common sense to follow detailed instructions.

Technical Skills:

Proficient with modern office equipment and computer systems, including word processing and spreadsheet software; familiarity with medical software is advantageous.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a fast-paced clinic environment with moderate noise levels.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience in an orthopedic medical office.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant is highly preferred.

If not certified, candidates must complete the required certification within two years of employment.
