Job Summary

The StateJobsNY is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Peer Specialist to join our team. As a Peer Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting and empowering parents of youth involved in the juvenile justice system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain supportive relationships with parents, providing a safe and non-judgmental space for them to share their experiences and concerns.
  • Develop and implement community outreach programs to connect parents with local resources and support groups, promoting a sense of community and belonging.
  • Provide advocacy and support to parents in meetings and appointments, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.
  • Support parents in crisis, offering emotional support and connecting them with emergency resources as needed.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to develop and implement programs that promote family engagement and empowerment.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in peer support and community outreach.
Requirements
  • Two years of experience participating in self-help activities, peer support or advocacy programs, or similar organizations.
  • Experience working with parents of youth involved in the juvenile justice system, or a similar population.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with parents and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and partnership.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to navigate complex systems and navigate multiple priorities.
