Position Overview:

This role is integral to a larger data engineering team responsible for creating data pipelines, integrations, and data products tailored to meet internal operational and analytical requirements.

The Senior Software Engineer – Data will collaborate with fellow engineers, architects, analysts, and product managers to deliver scalable and sustainable solutions. They will tackle moderately complex technical assignments that necessitate significant judgment and initiative. A solid understanding of the implications of their work is essential, along with the ability to recommend effective solutions. Typically, they will operate with minimal supervision on daily tasks and will only require general guidance on new assignments.

Key Responsibilities:
Technical Engineering Expertise – this team operates within an Azure + Databricks Lakehouse environment.

The role necessitates the following technical competencies:

Experience in cloud data engineering, including:
(Data orchestration using tools like Azure Data Factory, data storage in cloud environments such as Azure Data Lake, and SDLC + CI/CD through platforms like Azure DevOps)Proficiency in SQL (TSQL, PostGresSQL, etc.) and familiarity with Spark, including the capability to develop ETL processes using PySpark and SparkSQL.Experience with shell scriptingProficiency in parquet and other data exchange/storage formatsFamiliarity with agile development methodologies and standard DevOps practices.

A deep understanding of indexing and partitioning is essential, along with the ability to optimize data engineering code for performance (capable of analyzing a DAG and identifying resource-intensive areas). Proficiency in common distributed cloud computing concepts such as fault tolerance, idempotency, and SOA is also required.

Leadership & Interpersonal Skills – this team is part of a broader, cross-functional organization encompassing various roles and experience levels.


This individual should be able to:
Collaborate effectively with technical teams and leverage system expertise to deliver innovative solutions.
Engage in continuous learning and share knowledge of both existing and emerging technologies.
Contribute to the development of colleagues through mentoring, workshops, and learning sessions.
Drive engineering initiatives by developing data solutions, conducting tests and inspections, and preparing reports and calculations. Expected to oversee base and associate-level engineers as necessary.
Comprehend system protocols, operational mechanics, and data flows. Stay informed about current technological advantages. Expected to independently develop a complete software stack. Understand the building blocks, interactions, dependencies, and tools necessary for software and automation tasks. Independent research on current technologies is anticipated. Collaborate with system engineers to define system requirements and/or necessary automation specifications.
Innovation – this group utilizes industry-leading platforms and methodologies.

This individual is expected to:


Navigate the uncertainties involved in developing new systems/platformsDesign and implement innovative ideas that leverage novel frameworks to enhance existing or new systems/processes/services.

Evaluate current designs and processes to identify more efficient methods for completing existing workloads through industry insights.

Contribute to new and existing technological options that align with business objectives and understand how current technology supports existing and future business goals.

Communication – this team leads the organization in platform and process. Clear communication of architecture, processes, and implementations is vital to elevate all teams.

This individual should be able to:
Draft basic documentation outlining how technology functions. Create clear documentation for new code and systems.
Document system designs, presentations, and business requirements for managerial review and consideration.

Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering (or equivalent experience)

Work Experience:4-7 years of technical engineering experience. (Required)

Base Pay Range:
$108,200 - $195,300

Corporate Bonus Target: 15%The pay range above reflects the general base pay range for a successful candidate in this role.

The actual pay for the successful candidate will depend on various factors, including work location, qualifications, and experience, so the starting pay may vary within this range.

At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, depending on their role.

Most corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance, which is set at a percentage of the employee's eligible earnings from the previous year.

Certain positions in customer care may qualify for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance.
