Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Field Training Officer to join our team at the University of Minnesota. As a Field Training Officer, you will be responsible for providing direct patient care, supervising volunteer EMTs, and completing reports. You will also assist with internal and external training and education, and maintain EMT certification and training requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care at events and incidents staffed by UMEMS
  • Supervise volunteer EMTs at events and incidents staffed by UMEMS
  • Complete reports and assist with administrative and logistic support of UMEMS
  • Assist with internal and external training and education provided through UMEMS
  • Maintain EMT certification and training requirements
Requirements
  • Be 18 years or older
  • Possess a valid MN driver's license
  • Possess a current Minnesota Certification as an EMT without pending disciplinary or corrective action
  • Possess current CPR Certification at the Healthcare Provider level, according to current AHA guidelines
  • Certified as an Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO or EVOC) (Ambulance)
  • Must be able to communicate quickly and clearly verbally and in writing in English
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active member of UMEMS for over a one year
  • AHA BLS instructor
  • EMSRB authorized EMS examiner
  • DOT Certified EMS instructor
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk up or down stairs, across varied terrain, and enter/egress vehicles without assistance
  • Ability to stand/walk up to 4 hours continuously
  • Ability to lift equipment of varying weights up or down stairs, across varied terrain, and in or out of vehicles
  • Ability to lift patients of varying weights up or down stairs, across varied terrain, and in or out of an ambulance
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds
  • Ability to lift arms above the shoulder
  • Ability to bend, kneel
Working Conditions

UMEMS employees are often tasked to provide patient care and movement/transportation. They are also responsible for assisting with the logistics of department operations.
