Job Summary:

The Patient Access Representative plays a crucial role in the revenue cycle by accurately processing patient data, ensuring compliance with payor insurance requirements, and maintaining current knowledge of unit-specific policies. This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment. The ideal candidate will be able to acquire, enter, and update patient registration information into the Eclipsys system, verify accuracy of data, and provide information related to billing, compliance, patient rights, and HIPAA. Additionally, the Patient Access Representative will verify patient insurance coverage, obtain authorizations, and refer non-insured patients to a financial counselor. This role also involves requesting and collecting co-pays, deposits, and issuing receipts, as well as communicating with medical and clinical personnel regarding patient access, interfacility transfers, discharge processing, reimbursement issues, and authorization requirements. The successful candidate will be able to accurately index patient information to the HPR, interact with IS, HIM, and ASR's to ensure optimal information flow, and resolve inaccuracies and discrepancies. This position requires two years of medical office or customer service experience, with a strong understanding of medical terminology and knowledge of Eclipsys or PHS/HPF systems. The Patient Access Representative will work closely with the Patient Access Coordinator to develop and implement work schedules that accommodate patient flow and meet departmental needs. This role also involves participating in the orientation process for new team members, participating in huddles, line ups, and employee meetings, and participating in voluntary and required in-services, educational activities, and performance improvement activities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, team concepts, and deliver exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and colleagues. This position is a key contributor to the success of the Patient Access Department and requires a strong commitment to delivering high-quality patient care and exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities:

Acquire, enter, and update patient registration information into the Eclipsys system
Verify accuracy of data and provide information related to billing, compliance, patient rights, and HIPAA
Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain authorizations
Refer non-insured patients to a financial counselor
Request and collect co-pays, deposits, and issue receipts
Communicate with medical and clinical personnel regarding patient access, interfacility transfers, discharge processing, reimbursement issues, and authorization requirements
Accurately index patient information to the HPR and interact with IS, HIM, and ASR's to ensure optimal information flow
Resolve inaccuracies and discrepancies
Participate in the development of work schedules to accommodate patient flow and meet departmental needs

Requirements:

Two years of medical office or customer service experience
Strong understanding of medical terminology
Knowledge of Eclipsys or PHS/HPF systems
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
Strong commitment to delivering high-quality patient care and exceptional customer service

Work Environment and Hazards:

This position is located in a clinical setting and requires exposure to various hazards, including clinical equipment and patient information. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in this environment and maintain confidentiality of patient information.

Physical Demands:

This position requires sedentary work, including standing, walking, and sitting for prolonged periods of time. The ideal candidate will be able to perform repetitive motion of hands, fingers, and wrists, and maintain good posture and body mechanics.

Work Contact Group:

This position involves working with various groups, including patients, visitors, vendors, and regulatory agencies. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively with these groups and maintain a positive and professional demeanor.

Supervised By:

This position is supervised by the Patient Access Coordinator. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively under this supervision and maintain open communication with the supervisor.

Supervises:

This position does not supervise any staff members.

Career Path:

The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to advance to Level 2, Level 3 Patient Access Representative, Coordinator, or Manager positions within the Patient Access Department.

Pay Range:

The pay range for this position is $17.00-$23.60 per hour.
