Patient Access Representative

The Patient Access Representative plays a critical role in the revenue cycle by accurately processing patient data and maintaining current knowledge of payor insurance requirements. This position requires two years of medical office or customer service experience and involves interacting with medical staff, patients, and vendors. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service, and the ability to work in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Acquires, enters, and updates patient registration information into the Eclipsys system, verifying accuracy of data
Provides information related to billing, compliance, patient rights, and HIPAA
Verifies patient insurance coverage and obtains authorizations related to the patient's stay
Requests and collects co-pays, deposits, and issues receipts at time of payment
Communicates with medical and clinical personnel regarding patient access, interfacility transfers, discharge processing, reimbursement issues, authorization requirements, surgical, and diagnostic orders
Accurately indexes patient information to HPR and interacts with IS, HIM, ASR's to assure optimal information flow and resolve inaccuracies and discrepancies
Intakes MD requests for patient admission, coordinates assignment of patients to beds, maintains accurate bed-board status, and compiles daily census
Performs other clerical tasks to support the supervisor, including QA-related audits
Participates in the development of the work schedule to accommodate patient flow and meet departmental needs
Requirements:
Two years of medical office or customer service experience
Word processing skills and PC experience
Basic mathematical skills, effective verbal and written communication, and human relations skills
Related experience in hospital registration, Eclipsys, or PHS/HPF and knowledge of medical terminology preferred
Work Environment and Hazards:
Clinical Setting. Exposure Class I or II; service specific
