POSITION SUMMARY


At KIPP Indy Public Schools, we recognize that the emotional and character development of our students is fundamentally connected to their academic achievements.

We are seeking a Youth Support Specialist to collaborate with families, students, and educational staff to design and execute tailored support strategies for students at KIPP Indy Public Schools.

The Youth Support Specialist will play a vital role within the KIPP Indy team, working closely with our high school students to ensure they receive the necessary support to thrive both academically and personally.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of and respect for the cultural backgrounds of the community served, advocate for students and families through a trauma-informed approach, and effectively collaborate with various stakeholders to assist students and families in accessing essential resources.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee the referral process for social services and community partnerships, including:
  • Conducting regular evaluations of student and family needs, utilizing data to establish a comprehensive support vision in collaboration with external partners.
  • Facilitating student retention through strategic home visits.
  • Connecting individuals and families with external resources and assisting them in navigating these services.
  • Conducting home visits for newly enrolled and current students as necessary.
  • Organizing workshops to inform families, staff, and/or students on specific topics.
  • Managing records, documentation, and compliance activities.

Provide direct services to the school community, including:

  • Offering regular one-on-one or group counseling sessions to students and families.
  • Meeting consistently with students who require mandated counseling as outlined in their IEPs.
  • Ensuring a safe and supportive environment during counseling sessions.
  • Providing crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Tracking and documenting student interactions and counseling schedules.
  • Setting goals with students and monitoring their progress.
  • Collaborating with teachers and staff to address student needs.
  • Identifying and assisting students and families facing displacement in arranging transportation to and from school and connecting them with community resources.
  • Maintaining regular communication with families and students experiencing displacement to stay updated on their situations and connect them with potential resources.

Additional Responsibilities: include, but are not limited to:

  • Consulting with the school leadership team to develop comprehensive support strategies for students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
  • Communicating effectively with students, families, and colleagues, addressing family concerns promptly.
  • Participating in team meetings, school-wide events, professional development, and other activities.
  • Providing insights to staff and leadership regarding effective approaches for supporting struggling students.
  • Exhibiting the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct and maintaining confidentiality when working with students, parents, and staff.
