Key Responsibilities:

The Summer Educational Support Specialist operates under the guidance of the designated Summer Learning Academy Teacher and Principal. This role is pivotal in assisting with student instruction and facilitating engaging learning experiences to help students meet established educational objectives. The specialist plays a crucial role in promoting the success of all students by collaborating on the development, communication, implementation, and assessment of a shared vision for learning that embodies excellence.

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Familiarity with effective instructional practices, particularly those aimed at remedial education.
  • Understanding of the curriculum and the ability to implement it effectively in a classroom environment.
  • Proficient in multitasking and managing time efficiently.
  • Ability to engage positively with students and parents regarding academic and social development.

Academic Support:

  • Supervises students across various educational settings.
  • Assists the classroom teacher in delivering a comprehensive instructional program.
  • Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of concepts introduced by the teacher.
  • Supports the implementation of enrichment or remedial activities, including independent study and hands-on learning experiences.
  • Assists in administering student assessments as per the assessment schedule.
  • Communicates high expectations for teaching and learning in an engaging and effective manner.
  • Utilizes data to inform instructional adjustments.
  • Shares student progress in academics and behavior with parents and team members.
  • Incorporates technology into teaching and professional practices.

Community and Culture:

  • Articulates a clear vision of excellence and continuous improvement aligned with the goals of the Summer Learning Academy.
  • Effectively conveys the mission of the Summer Learning Academy to colleagues, students, and families.
  • Collaborates as a team member, engaging in shared planning, professional development, curriculum design, and teaching responsibilities.
  • Creates a classroom environment that fosters self-esteem and supports effective teaching and learning.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of conduct in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Promotes a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Encourages positive relationships among staff, parents, students, and community members.
  • Handles disciplinary matters in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Utilizes appropriate channels for addressing routine procedures and resolving concerns.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates reliability and punctuality consistently.
  • Adheres to attendance policies and procedures.
  • Follows all guidelines outlined in relevant handbooks.

Evaluation and Feedback:

  • Ensures completion of surveys for continuous improvement.
  • Assists in compiling the Summer Learning Academy Portfolio as required.
  • Participates in regular feedback sessions with leadership.

Professional Growth:

  • Engages in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge of student learning and development.
  • Participates in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.

Resource Management:

  • Maintains and operates classroom equipment for instructional purposes.
  • Guides students in the effective use of instructional materials.
  • Monitors the appropriate use and care of educational resources.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of successful teaching experience at various educational levels.
  • Experience in a summer school program is preferred.
  • Associate's degree in an applicable field of education or 60 college credits from an accredited institution.
