Job Title: Materials and Process Engineer III

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As a Materials and Process Engineer III, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient production of liquid rocket engine hardware.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement coating, plating, cladding, and welding/joining processes to meet design and manufacturing requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to disposition nonconforming hardware and identify root causes of defects.
  • Work closely with design, analysis, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to develop and qualify novel materials and processes.
  • Train and empower production employees in manufacturing and repair techniques.
  • Promote a positive working relationship with hourly team members.
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in welding and joining, with a focus on aerospace materials and processes.
  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience operating and supporting processing equipment, such as heat treat furnaces, industrial robots, lasers, welding equipment, thermal spray, and cold spray systems.
  • Proven experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of special processes.
  • Experience writing and maintaining materials and process specifications and/or work instructions.
  • Experience with automation and/or mechanization of processes.
  • Familiarity with standard methods of manufacturing, such as conventional machining, non-conventional machining, and inspections.
  • Experience interpreting NDT/NDE results (such as UT, RT, PT).
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Masters or PhD in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in the production, manufacturing, testing, and assembly of rocket hardware.
  • Experience working with Ni-based alloys, Cu-based alloys, and/or other aerospace materials used in rocket propulsion manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated experience generating Engine Manual repairs or Service Bulletin alteration repair documents.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing repairs and/or remanufacture on tested/flight service hardware.
  • Experience with aerospace quality management systems supporting propulsion hardware.
  • Experience transitioning materials and processes from development to production.
  • Proven experience managing technology development projects, measuring technical progress, resources, and budgets.
