Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Automotive Body Shop Operations Manager to join our team at The Body Works of Virginia. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our body shop, ensuring customer satisfaction, and driving business growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Operations Management: Oversee the daily operations of the body shop, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Ensure that customer complaints are resolved promptly and that customer satisfaction metrics are met.
  • Team Management: Recruit, hire, and train service managers, parts managers, and estimators to meet profit levels.
  • Strategic Planning: Implement growth strategies that align with our automotive group objectives by carefully assessing profit and loss.
  • Performance Management: Forecasts goals and objectives for the department and strives to meet them.
  • Employee Management: Hires, trains, motivates and monitors the performance of all body shop employees.
  • Financial Management: Prepares and administers an annual operating budget for the body shop.
  • Quality Control: Directs and schedules the work of all body shop employees, ensuring that proper repair and safety procedures are followed.
  • Customer Relations: Establishes and maintains good working relationships with customers to encourage repeat and referral business.
  • Inventory Management: Monitors technicians' daily productivity reports and corresponding payroll records.
  • Estimating: Gives fair estimates on costs and time required for body work.
  • Parts Management: Follows up on parts department orders to ensure parts availability.
  • Shop Management: Monitors progress and completion of vehicles in the shop, ensuring that proper repair and safety procedures are followed.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintains high-quality service repairs and minimizes comebacks. Conducts periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality.
  • Compliance: Understands, keeps abreast of and complies with federal, state and local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc. Provides necessary training.
  • Safety: Ensures that proper safety equipment is available and being used properly.
  • Training: Facilitates and/or conducts technical training and sends employees to appropriate training schools as needed.
  • Maintenance: Monitors the maintenance of paint booths, frame straightening equipment, and other large fixed assets to ensure long-term usage and value.
  • Equipment: Keeps abreast of new equipment and tools available and recommends purchases.
  • Cleanliness: Ensures that the work areas and customer waiting area are kept clean.
  • Professionalism: Maintains professional appearance.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required; a high school diploma or GED equivalent needed.
  • Experience: Three or more years of experience in a sales manager or general manager position for a dealership or auto group is necessary.
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of the automotive industry and trends.
  • License: Possess a state-issued driver's license and acceptable driving record to operate dealership-owned vehicles.
  • Skills: Strong communication skills; a track record of leadership; and the ability to interpret profit and loss statements are necessary for success.
