Position Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager, Closure to join our team at Barrick Gold. As a key member of our North American Closure team, you will be responsible for driving safe and timely execution of closure strategies for our US legacy sites.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mine closure project plan development, permitting, and execution, with a proven track record of success in a similar role. You will be responsible for assessing and managing risks, minimizing financial liabilities, and preserving our social license to operate.

Responsibilities:
  • Drive the safe, timely, and cost-effective completion of projects required to achieve final closure objectives for the US legacy sites
  • Coach and mentor site managers and staff to ensure adequate resources and management plans are in place to achieve compliance and advance final closure goals in a timely manner
  • Identify, communicate, and develop mitigation plans for risks associated with the NA legacy sites arising from operational, regulatory, or stakeholder issues
  • Ensure succession plans and adequate resources are in place for the US legacy sites
  • Support initiatives to redevelop or divest US legacy sites as part of the broader portfolio optimization strategy
  • Work with the Head of Communities & Corporate Affairs, North America, legal counsel, and site leadership to develop and execute effective stakeholder engagement plans
  • Support community, government, and tribal relations and engagements
  • Support development and execution of final closure strategies for other sites in the North American legacy portfolio
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to Global operations on matters pertaining to closure
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant, practical experience in mine closure project plan development, permitting, and execution with a strong safety record
  • Strong team leadership and project management experience, with demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans and achieve results
  • Excellent people leadership, coaching, and influencing skills with direct reports, indirect reports, and peers
  • An agile mindset capable of developing new ideas and executing in an extremely fast-paced environment
  • Strong written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent people and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Strong organization, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Business acumen and understanding of mining business drivers, strategic and tactical planning, budgeting, and cost control processes
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 2 weeks per month
  • Experience working in the extractive industry is preferable
