Job Summary

As a key member of the Prisma Health Orthopedics team, the Athletic Trainer will assist physicians in operating room procedures, communicate essential information to patients, and provide pre-operative and post-operative care. This role will also involve participating in the Athletic Training Residency program, precepting residents, and contributing to the development of the residency mission, goals, and curriculum. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in Athletic Training, 1 year of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer, and relevant certifications, including the South Carolina DHEC Athletic Training Certificate and NBCOT OTC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians in operating room procedures, communicate necessary information to patients, and provide pre-operative and post-operative care.
  • Participate in the Athletic Training Residency program, precepting residents, and contributing to the development of the residency mission, goals, and curriculum.
  • Perform patient intake for various medical and musculoskeletal conditions, including thorough histories, assessments, and medication reconciliations.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of athletic training residency mission, goals, objectives, and related curriculum and programming.
  • Assist physicians in clinical care, including triage, casting, suture removal, vitals, and referrals for physical therapy, diagnostic studies, and surgeries.
  • Collaborate with physicians to develop musculoskeletal and concussion care plans, prepare for minor surgical procedures, and perform point-of-care testing.
  • Provide post-operative care, discuss follow-up care, perform evaluations, and provide patient education and discharge.
  • Triage patient messages, phone calls, and questions, communicate with referring providers, and manage referrals to specialists and diagnostics tests.

Requirements

Masters Degree - Athletic Training

1 year as a Certified Athletic Training

South Carolina DHEC Athletic Training Certificate required

CPR Certification

NBCOT OTC (Orthopaedic Technologist)
