Position Overview
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) operates under the guidance and oversight of the Director of Student Services, focusing on elementary school students from transitional kindergarten through fifth grade. The SLP is responsible for screening, assessing, diagnosing, and treating communication disorders related to speech and language. These communication challenges may encompass issues with articulation, fluency, voice, verbal and written language, auditory comprehension, and cognitive communication. This is a full-time position located in Washington, DC, where the SLP will design and implement specific elements of a speech and language program as outlined in an individualized educational plan (IEP) while also contributing to the broader Rocketship community.Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver direct therapy to address students' speech production, vocal quality, and language requirements through speech therapy.
  • Implement pre-referral speech/language interventions in Tier 1 and Tier 2 settings as part of a speech RTI initiative.
  • Document and gather data on all consultation sessions and provide ongoing evaluations.
  • Conduct screenings and assessments related to language, voice, fluency, articulation, or hearing.
  • Develop and execute high-quality, legally compliant IEPs.
  • Compose comprehensive evaluation reports.
  • Maintain organized student files and treatment logs, ensuring appropriate documentation is provided to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Communicate with the Associate Director regarding any changes in student status, challenges, or intentions to modify any aspect of the educational program.
  • Participate in required meetings, including those for the speech team, staff, and IEP discussions.
  • Create instructional materials and assess commercially available resources for treatment.
  • Stay informed on the latest advancements in speech therapy by attending professional seminars, reviewing current literature, and engaging with professional organizations as assigned.
  • Offer professional development support to school staff and families.
  • Manage time effectively, adhere to schedules, and notify relevant personnel of any deviations.
  • Supervise SLPAs, CFs, or interns.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Possession of a valid Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential; a Master's Degree is required.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is strongly preferred but not mandatory.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with a diverse range of staff members (educators, school administrators, senior management).
  • A strong commitment to Rocketship's mission, vision, and objectives.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Demonstrated skills necessary for fulfilling the responsibilities of a Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Experience supervising a CF or SLPA is preferred but not required.

Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment can range from moderate to high.
