Job Overview

The Lead Custodial Specialist is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the Older Americans facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts daily cleaning and sanitization of restrooms, office spaces, and communal areas.
  • Ensures restroom supplies are adequately stocked.
  • Performs window and wall cleaning, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and carpet care including shampooing and steam cleaning.
  • Maintains floors through stripping, waxing, polishing, and buffing.
  • Dusts furniture and cleans baseboards.
  • Empties and replaces liners in trash receptacles daily.
  • Collects litter from the premises and surrounding grounds.
  • Maintains custodial tools and equipment.
  • Responsible for securing the building by locking and unlocking as necessary.
  • Arranges furniture and equipment as required.
  • Clears debris from entrance areas and removes hazards such as ice and snow from walkways.
  • Assists with meal pickups for daily programs and Meals on Wheels.
  • Delivers meals and provides companionship to clients as needed.
  • Facilitates transportation for participants to and from meal services.
  • Assists individuals with mobility challenges by delivering meals to their tables.
  • Occasionally transports seniors to appointments and errands.
  • Acts as a substitute for the Maintenance Supervisor when required.
  • Participates in various employee committees as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED preferred, with at least one year of experience in custodial services or a related field.

Skills and Abilities:
Proficient knowledge of cleaning equipment, materials, and supplies.
Ability to work independently and manage daily tasks effectively.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to follow and relay written and verbal instructions.
Capable of building and maintaining positive relationships with staff and the public.

Licensing and Certifications:
Valid state-issued driver's license.
Ability to complete Building and Maintenance Care training.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Physical Requirements:
The role requires frequent communication, standing, walking, kneeling, and manual dexterity. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, and lifting up to 100 pounds may be necessary. Visual acuity is required for various tasks.

Work Environment:
Employees may work in elevated areas and may encounter adverse weather, fumes, or chemicals. The noise level is typically quiet.
