Children's Hospital of Michigan stands as a premier institution in pediatric and adolescent healthcare. Our surgical offerings encompass a wide range of specialties, including general, thoracic, reconstructive, and cardiovascular surgery. We utilize state-of-the-art imaging technology tailored for children, providing advanced diagnostic services such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and MRI. Our Emergency Department is recognized as a verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, alongside a specialized pediatric burn center.

Position Summary

Under general supervision and adhering to established protocols, the Pediatric Rehabilitation Specialist will conduct therapeutic evaluations and interventions tailored to pediatric patients.

  • Confirm patient identity and review medical history to ensure the appropriateness of treatment.
  • Engage with patients to gather, verify, or update medical histories and assess any potential risk factors.
  • Clearly explain treatment procedures to patients, including potential side effects, risks, benefits, and alternatives.
  • Prepare and utilize therapeutic equipment to deliver appropriate interventions.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, making initial observations and communicating findings to the healthcare team.
  • Respond to medical emergencies as necessary.
  • Provide post-treatment instructions as prescribed by the physician.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the rehabilitation department.
  • Be available for on-call duties as required by the department.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Certification by the relevant professional body in Pediatric Rehabilitation.
  • Completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) training as mandated.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong analytical and clinical skills to determine age-appropriate therapeutic methods.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients under stress.
  • Technical proficiency in operating specialized therapeutic equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Physical stamina to perform tasks involving walking, standing, and lifting.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to utilize therapeutic equipment effectively.
