Job Summary:

The Communications Manager will develop, implement, and evaluate communications and public relations plans for the Cook County Health and Hospitals System. This role will be responsible for activities including internal and external collateral, talking points, speeches, news releases, web and social media content, events promotion, media relations, management and staff development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement communications and public relations plans to support the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Manage and maintain internal and external collateral, including brochures, flyers, and other marketing materials.
  • Prepare and deliver speeches, presentations, and other communications materials as needed.
  • Develop and disseminate news releases and other media materials to promote the organization's initiatives and achievements.
  • Manage and maintain the organization's website and social media presence.
  • Develop and implement events promotion and management strategies to support the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Manage and maintain media relations, including developing and disseminating press releases and other media materials.
  • Develop and implement management and staff development strategies to support the organization's goals and objectives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum six (6) years of communications and marketing experience, including digital expertise.
  • Minimum two (2) years managing communication programs in a professional service, not-for-profit, and/or healthcare environment.
  • Excellent oral and writing skills, with the ability to adapt communications to different audiences and management levels.
  • Demonstrated competence in project management with strong communications, design, conceptual, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with health system governing body, community organizations, the media, and various political entities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work cooperatively and efficiently with a variety of people throughout the Hospital system, including physicians, researchers, and administrators with respect for their expertise or field of interest.
  • Ability to provide leadership and effective supervision for staff.
  • Ability to travel to various locations within the Cook County Health and Hospitals System.

Working Conditions:

The incumbent is responsible for adherence to all hospital and department-specific safety requirements, including but not limited to, complying with Personal Protective Equipment requirements, hand washing and sanitizing practices, complying with department-specific engineering and work practice controls, and any other work area safety precautions as specified by hospital-wide policy and departmental procedures.

Veteran Preference:

When applying for employment with the Cook County Health and Hospitals System, preference is given to honorably discharged Veterans who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States for not less than 6 months of continuous service.
