Position Overview

The ARFF Assembler plays a crucial role in the assembly of various components such as doors, hose beds, body panels, and additional parts like roll doors and steps, in accordance with specified guidelines. This role involves drilling, manipulating, and performing light fabrication on parts and essential truck components to finalize the custom assembly. The ARFF Assembler is tasked with constructing modules and other body components based on the specification manual. Additionally, they will prepare and install wire harnesses for the necessary equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Install all interior and exterior elements of the cabs, including the routing and installation of A/C lines and vents.
  2. Wire air pumps, dashboard components, and fuse boxes to complete the electrical systems within the cab.
  3. Assemble body modules and components in accordance with the specification manual.
  4. Handle the installation of doors, hose beds, compartment internals, and body panels.
  5. Drill and tap holes, and perform light fabrication as required to complete projects.
  6. Interpret and understand specifications and blueprints for constructing fire apparatus.
  7. Run wire harnesses according to schematics, crimping and connecting wires and electrical components as needed.
  8. Carry out additional duties as assigned by management to meet organizational needs.

Tools Utilized:

Hand tools, power tools, grinders, cut-off wheels, and measuring tapes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's):

Knowledge:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude is essential.
  • Previous manufacturing experience is preferred.

Skills:

Language:

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specification manuals.
  • Proficient in accurately reading a tape measure.
  • Capable of following both written and verbal instructions.

Mathematics:

  • Competent in basic arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division across various units of measure.

Computer Skills:

  • Able to perform basic computer tasks to access information or make changes related to the assembly process.

Abilities:

  • Ability to identify quality issues and adapt to changes in the production process.
  • Capable of prioritizing tasks and multitasking while meeting deadlines.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision in a collaborative environment.
  • Understand and adhere to all safety protocols to maintain a safe workplace.

Other Qualifications:

Must possess a valid driving license and have access to a vehicle. Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed. Overtime may be required to fulfill departmental needs.
