Job Overview

The Technical Engineering Specialist role is essential for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of our energy generation, transmission, and distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Duties:
The Technical Engineering Specialist will engage in engineering tasks related to the design, construction, maintenance, and operational management of our power facilities, transmission networks, substations, distribution frameworks, gas systems, control centers, and additional infrastructure.

This position involves:

  • Continuous monitoring and management of energy distribution and responding to system irregularities.
  • Overseeing all activities associated with generation, distribution, and transmission that deliver electric and gas services to our clientele.

The role also encompasses responsibilities in Communications Engineering and Maintenance, focusing on the secure and efficient design and upkeep of our operational technology (OT) communication networks, including wireless and fiber optic systems.

Specific Tasks:

The Specialist will:

  • Utilize established protocols to execute assigned tasks under direct supervision.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of internal operational processes.
  • Gather and relay information for both internal teams and external clients.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities such as seminars and training.
  • Engage in project and process enhancement initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution.
Fundamental understanding of engineering principles, practices, and procedures.
Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and coordinate with related departments to achieve project goals.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills for interaction with personnel at all organizational levels.
Capability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision and prioritize effectively.
Proactive approach to identifying needs and employing research skills to resolve issues as necessary.
Willingness to participate in on-call duties and occasional unscheduled work during evenings, weekends, or holidays as experience allows.
Ability to travel for off-site work, seminars, and inspections as required.
Eligibility to obtain a Professional Engineer License in Texas.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, email, and scheduling tools.

Preferred Qualifications:
Engineer In Training (EIT) designation from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers.
Basic familiarity with electric distribution or transmission systems.
Experience in technical writing or relevant coursework.
Knowledge of Computer Aided-Drafting systems and Bentley MicroStation software.
Familiarity with ESRI GIS software and Arc FM Designer software.
Experience with SAP and Work Manager software.

Essential Skills:

Must-Haves:
Advanced proficiency in Excel.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science.

Nice to Haves:
Over 6 years of experience in Microsoft 365 Engineering.
Experience with Application and Work Manager Systems.
Demonstrated technical writing capabilities.
Knowledge of GIS (Geographical Information Systems).
