Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated School Social Worker to join our team at MindWorks Collaborative. As a key member of our educational support team, you will play a vital role in identifying and addressing the mental and emotional needs of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support and guidance to students facing challenges, working closely with parents and school staff to develop effective intervention strategies.
  • Conduct thorough assessments to understand the root causes of students' issues, utilizing your expertise in counseling and communication to build trust and rapport.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other school staff to create a safe and supportive learning environment, addressing issues such as bullying and aggressive behavior.
  • Review students' medical and mental health history, identifying potential areas of concern and developing targeted support plans.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans to support students facing hardships, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and engaged in the support process.
  • Refer students and families to external mental health services and psychiatric support, as needed.
  • Ensure that Housing-Insecure children and youth receive the necessary services and support.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between families, schools, and outside service providers, facilitating communication and collaboration.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices and research in child wellbeing, continually seeking new ways to improve our support services.
  • Provide guidance and support to teachers working with high-risk students, helping to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support parents in facilitating their child's progress, offering guidance and resources to help them navigate the support process.
  • Report any instances of physical, mental, or emotional abuse to the appropriate authorities, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our students.
Requirements
  • Previous experience as a School Social Worker or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of child development and mental health.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office Suite and Special Education Data Systems, with the ability to navigate compliance timelines and reporting requirements.
  • Working knowledge of the McKinney-Vento policy and procedures, with experience working with a wide range of issues affecting students' families.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people from diverse backgrounds, with a strong empathetic and trustworthy personality.
  • Degree in Social Work or Psychology, with a Master's degree preferred.
  • Active Social Work License, with the level varying by organization.
