POSITION SUMMARY:

The role involves contributing to the successful operation of the Blue Palmetto Cafe, ensuring a delightful experience for all guests.

Customer Engagement and Sales

  • Exhibit a professional appearance and maintain a positive demeanor.
  • Welcome customers warmly and establish eye contact.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the menu to assist customers effectively.
  • Be informed about the Gardens, special events, and local attractions.
  • Provide assistance to customers and seek help when necessary.
  • Encourage feedback and address customer inquiries.
  • Attend to the cashier area diligently.
  • Ensure prompt answering of phone calls.
  • Signal for assistance when necessary.
  • Participate in promotional events and sales activities.

Café Upkeep and Presentation

  • Ensure the café displays are visually appealing and clean.
  • Utilize approved signage effectively.
  • Create festive displays for holidays and special events.
  • Maintain a welcoming atmosphere in all areas.
  • Conduct daily cleaning of customer and workspaces.
  • Organize stockroom and storage areas efficiently.
  • Perform daily floor maintenance.
  • Clean glass surfaces regularly.
  • Dust and tidy surfaces as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness in outdoor areas.
  • Ensure safety and cleanliness during food preparation.
  • At the end of the day, secure the café and ensure all systems are shut down.

Communication

  • Submit schedule requests in advance and collaborate to resolve conflicts.
  • Notify management of low stock levels.
  • Report any safety concerns or suspicious activities immediately.
  • Share suggestions and feedback with management.
  • Foster teamwork and maintain open communication.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Handle phone inquiries appropriately.
  • Participate in committees as needed.

Cash Handling

  • Process cash register transactions accurately.
  • Handle manual transactions during outages.
  • Understand all cash register functions thoroughly.
  • Provide discounts as applicable.
  • Assist with special promotions.
  • Ensure front-counter items are well-stocked.
  • Maintain cleanliness in dining areas.
  • Oversee the beverage bar inventory.
  • Manage daily cash balancing and deposit procedures.

Inventory Management

  • Monitor stock levels and document needs.
  • Adhere to safety protocols when handling supplies.
  • Inspect deliveries for quality and accuracy.
  • Report any discrepancies to management.
  • Organize stock using FIFO methods.

Food Preparation

  • Monitor temperatures in storage areas.
  • Prepare food stations for service.
  • Ensure adequate supplies of ingredients.
  • Label food items appropriately.
  • Maintain proper food rotation.

Cooking Duties

  • Organize the kitchen and maintain cleanliness.
  • Prepare menu items as required.
  • Manage kitchen orders efficiently.
  • Prepare meals for special events.

Utility Responsibilities

  • Ensure cleanliness in all areas of the café.
  • Operate dishwashing equipment effectively.
  • Manage waste disposal and recycling.

Financial Goals

  • Work towards achieving budgeted revenue targets.
  • Control expenses to maximize profitability.

QUALIFICATIONS: To succeed in this role, candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior experience in food service is advantageous.
