Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Colorado POST certification, be currently enrolled in a POST Academy, or have a provisional certification from the Colorado State Attorney General's office for out-of-state candidates.

The Thornton Police Department serves the 6th largest city in Colorado, responding to over 100,000 calls for service annually.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct law enforcement duties, including patrolling assigned areas.
  • Engage in investigations and crime prevention activities, including report writing and evidence collection.
  • Provide assistance and information to the public, emphasizing community engagement.
  • Respond to various incidents, including assaults, thefts, and traffic accidents.
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and participate in special projects.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule and may be required to work overtime.

Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge of law enforcement principles and practices.
  • Ability to apply self-defense techniques and handle potentially dangerous situations.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with diverse groups.
  • Proficient in report preparation and documentation.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues and the community.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

This role requires physical stamina and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations. Candidates must meet all medical and physical testing requirements.
