Crisis Response Advocate

POSITION SUMMARY
This role involves providing immediate support to individuals affected by crime, ensuring their safety and addressing their needs during critical situations. The position requires effective communication with law enforcement and other relevant parties.
The advocate will deliver on-site crisis intervention and assistance to victims of crime, serving various communities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist victims in navigating their circumstances and connecting with necessary contacts such as family, healthcare providers, and legal representatives.
- Offer comprehensive case management services tailored to the needs of crime victims.
- Analyze police reports to identify victim needs and suggest appropriate actions.
- Act as a liaison among victims, law enforcement, legal entities, and social services.
- Inform victims about their rights and the criminal justice process, providing updates throughout investigations.
- Facilitate referrals to additional support services as needed.
- Guide victims and their families through compensation and financial assistance processes.
- Maintain accurate records for reporting purposes and case management.
- Utilize language services effectively when necessary.
- Compile and maintain resources available to victims within the community.
- Represent the organization in various community boards and committees.
- Be available for on-call situations and respond promptly to incidents.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge Required:
- Understanding of the criminal justice system.
- Familiarity with victim rights legislation.
- Awareness of the policies and goals of the advocacy office.
- Techniques for effective crisis intervention.
- Knowledge of community resources for crime victims.
Skills Required:
- Ability to assess crises and provide appropriate resources.
- Communicate updates to victims clearly and promptly.
- Assist with applications for victim compensation and financial aid.
- Utilize communication equipment effectively.
- Interpret and apply relevant laws and regulations.
- Proficient in standard office software and communication tools.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with various stakeholders.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree in a related field with a minimum of two years of experience in victim advocacy. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification from the National Advocate Credentialing Program (NACP) is desirable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to perform essential job functions, including sitting, standing, walking, and manual dexterity. Occasional light lifting may be required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
- Completion of FEMA training within six months of hire.
