Data Governance Specialist Job Description

At City National Bank, we're seeking a highly skilled Data Governance Specialist to join our team. As a Data Governance Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of our data governance program across business areas.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor Data Quality: Ensure that data is sourced from reliable and trustworthy sources, and execute monitoring and oversight activities to maintain data quality.
  • Develop and Execute Data Governance Strategy: Assist in the development and execution of our Data Governance Strategy, working closely with management and business stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with Data Stewards: Collaborate with operational and reporting data stewards to create data controls, identify measurement definitions, and manage using dashboards.
  • Implement Enterprise Data Policy: Implement enterprise data policy for governing data and actively measure compliance to the data policy for critical data and reports.
  • Communicate with Data Stewards: Implement ongoing communication with data stewards to ensure critical data issues are communicated timely for remediation.
  • Collaborate with Business Units: Collaborate with data stewards, data custodians, and report developers to ensure consistent use of data definitions, authorized data sources, and calculations.
  • Prioritize and Resolve Data Issues: Collaborate with data stewards, architecture, and information technology to prioritize and resolve data sourcing, business rules, data aggregation, data distribution, and data consumption.
  • Maintain Data Governance Adoption: Establish and maintain programs to monitor and measure data governance adoption and achievements.
  • Manage Critical Report Library: Responsible for maintaining an accurate enterprise critical report library with associated reporting metadata.
  • Document Data Governance Activities: Document and maintain data governance activities, maintain logs, and records issues and corresponding resolutions.
  • Develop Governance Roles and Responsibilities: Document various governance roles and responsibilities then educate data stewards, data owners, and data custodians.
  • Perform Other Related Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 Years of Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience with providing data governance function and operations.
  • Project Management Experience: Minimum 5 years of project management experience.
  • Consultancy and Facilitation Skills: Minimum 5 years of consultancy and facilitation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's Degree preferably in Information Systems or Business Administration. Master's Degree in a related field is strongly desired.
  • Banking Experience: Prefer 5 years of banking experience, preferably in regulatory reporting, audit, or credit.
  • Knowledge of Data Management: Knowledge of information access and delivery methods, analytics applications and tool portfolio, data sourcing and integration methods. Understanding of data warehouse, ETL, data cleansing, and architecture.
  • CCAR Reporting Experience: Experience with CCAR reporting and/or credit risk analytics preferred.
  • Collaboration and Communication Skills: Experience working and effectively collaborating with reporting, operations, and technology teams.
  • Operational and Support Environment Issues: Familiarity with operational and support environment issues.
  • Strong Critical Thinking Ability: Must be driven, operationally savvy, action-oriented who continually strives for improvement.
  • Problem Resolution Skills: Strong critical thinking ability and problem resolution skills.
  • Interpersonal and Project Management Skills: Ability to work independently with light to moderate supervision in various areas of responsibility. Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal/written communication skills, and strong project management skills.
  • Consulting with Senior Management: Experience consulting with senior management.
  • Thorough Knowledge of Data Governance: Thorough knowledge and operational skills in the Data Governance.
  • Personal Computers and Software: Thorough knowledge of personal computers and various software packages, including Excel and Word.

Compensation: Starting base salary: $101,231 - $172,355 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
