Job Overview

Position Summary:

In alignment with our mission to enhance the quality of life for our Residents, the Laundry Aide is essential in delivering comprehensive laundry services within the facility. This role primarily involves the washing, drying, folding, and mending of garments while adhering to infection control and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accommodations may be provided to assist individuals with disabilities in fulfilling essential duties.
  • Sorts and pre-soaks soiled textiles according to established infection control guidelines. Items are weighed and loaded into washing machines, selecting the appropriate cycle and water temperature. Suitable laundering chemicals are added based on the items being cleaned. After washing, wet linens are transferred to dryers, with the correct drying temperature, time, and cycle chosen based on linen type.
  • Organizes and folds clean laundry for storage or distribution to linen carts in designated storage areas.
  • Personal laundry for Residents is pressed, folded, and delivered to their rooms using sanitized linen carts. Inspects these items for any necessary repairs or replacements, as well as ensuring proper identification labels are present.
  • Escorts soiled linen carts to the designated holding area.
  • Adheres to Infection Control protocols when laundering isolation linens and garments.
  • Ensures that established infection control and safety practices are consistently maintained. Follows safety precautions while performing tasks and utilizing equipment and supplies.
  • Reports any hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, or supply shortages to the supervisor.
  • Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of Residents, interacting with them in a manner that conveys warmth, respect, and promotes a caring atmosphere.
  • Responds promptly and courteously to call lights when working in Resident care areas.
  • Assists in the training of new staff members.
  • Communicates effectively and tactfully with Residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and in-service training as required.
  • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Upholds and safeguards Resident Rights; aids Residents in making informed choices; treats Residents with dignity and respect; protects personal belongings; reports any suspected abuse or neglect; avoids the use of physical restraints in line with current professional standards; supports independent expression, choice, and decision-making as per applicable laws and regulations. Reports any suspected deviations to the Charge Nurse, Director of Nursing, or Administrator.
  • Applies hand hygiene principles throughout daily tasks; demonstrates knowledge of isolation and standard precautions; recognizes signs of infection and complies with the employee health program; understands the procedures for identifying and managing infectious waste; maintains personal hygiene; adheres to OSHA standards in the workplace; and demonstrates awareness of cross-contamination.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: One year of experience in a housekeeping or laundry role.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Detail-oriented and meticulous.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and respect the privacy of Residents.
  • Competent in reading, writing, and speaking to perform work efficiently, effectively, and courteously.
