Job Summary

As a key member of our team, you will provide leadership to all aspects of contract coding, working collaboratively with vendors, contracting, accounts payable, IT, other coding managers, and denial management. Your primary responsibility will be to provide high-quality, accurate, and compliant coding, DRG assignment, and abstracting of medical information for appropriate reimbursement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Maintain Relationships: Develop and maintain relationships with coding vendors, physicians, clinical staff, and other hospital staff.
  • Resource and Support: Act as a resource for department and other hospital personnel in identifying and resolving issues related to accurate coding and reimbursement.
  • Staffing and Onboarding: Monitor and evaluate all contract coding staffing needs, onboard new contract coding vendors/staff, and process and maintain coding contracts and invoices for coding vendors.
  • Training and Education: Participate in developing and implementing ongoing training and education for coding staff.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare reports and statistical analyses appropriate to each facility and coding vendors.
  • Quality Assurance: Develop and monitor ongoing mechanisms to ensure quality coding across the system.
  • Coding Denials: Collaborate with pertinent departments to resolve and track coding denial trends.
  • Performance Goals: Develop short- and long-range KPI goals and objectives for staff and contract coding.
  • Coding Policy and Procedures: Develop, recommend, and administer coding policy and procedures.
  • Contractor Management: Implement any/all approved changes in established procedures for contract coders.
  • Performance Management: Interviews, hires, and evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges subordinate personnel and contract coding staff.
  • Industry Knowledge: Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with governmental and third-party payors for all coding.
Requirements
  • Education: Associates Degree Required or Bachelors Degree Health Administration Preferred.
  • Certifications: RHIT/RHIA.
  • Experience: A minimum of three years of hospital inpatient/outpatient coding experience.
