Position Summary

The Financial Assessor Patient Accounting role embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare. This position adheres to the organization's ethical standards and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Achieve productivity and quality benchmarks in the resolution of claim edits, ensuring timely submission and accuracy of claims.
  • Meet or surpass productivity metrics, error ratios, and reporting obligations set by the Patient Accounting leadership.
  • Conduct timely follow-ups on third-party payer receivables, including denials and appeals, while performing root cause analysis to mitigate future issues.
  • Engage in compliant correspondence with third-party payers regarding outstanding accounts.
  • Support operations related to third-party accounts receivables across various categories, including Managed Care and Medicare.
  • Perform systematic reviews of work lists to ensure all accounts are addressed promptly.
  • Utilize regulatory guidelines for account collections and recommend write-offs with proper justification.
  • Maintain HIPAA privacy standards and ensure compliance with patient health information practices.
  • Identify and propose opportunities for system and process enhancements.
  • Adhere to departmental policies and procedures, including emergency preparedness protocols.
  • Utilize hospital mainframe systems and external software applications effectively.
  • Assist with special projects and additional duties as assigned by the Patient Accounting leadership.
  • Participate in training and seminars as required.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in systems and processes relevant to the role.
  • Possess a solid understanding of billing practices and insurance regulations.
  • Exhibit strong mathematical skills and attention to detail.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse audiences, demonstrating knowledge of medical terminology.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of relevant experience or a college degree.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and billing practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Ability to learn quickly and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to excellent service principles.

Preferred:

  • Two or more years of college education or a degree.
  • Experience in call centers or cash collections.
  • Familiarity with Epic Systems.
  • Progressive experience in hospital billing environments.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • High-level problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
