Position SummaryThe Senior Media Relations Specialist embodies the core mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare (NMH), adhering to the organization's ethical standards and compliance protocols. This role is pivotal in managing outreach to local and national media, working under the guidance of the Director of Media Relations or the Manager/Program Director.
The Senior Specialist will oversee media relations for key clinical services, hospitals, and health system initiatives. With a degree of autonomy, the Senior Specialist will focus on promoting significant clinical areas and hospital programs to enhance the reputation of NMH.
This position necessitates collaboration with various internal stakeholders, including hospital leadership, executive teams, and communications and marketing departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Aligns with the health system's strategic objectives by promoting new initiatives, service improvements, and clinical expertise to the media through diverse outreach methods, including press releases, tailored pitches, and social media engagement.
- Establishes and maintains positive relationships with media representatives by identifying new contacts and fostering ongoing interactions with existing ones.
- Utilizes social media platforms to amplify media coverage and engage with journalists effectively.
- Acts as a liaison for local media inquiries, including interview requests and medical information.
- In crisis situations, collaborates closely with the Director of Media Relations and other team members as necessary.
- Provides administrative support and assists in compiling and disseminating daily news coverage internally.
- Serves as an on-call media contact on a rotating schedule.
- Ensures all produced materials comply with departmental quality standards, HIPAA regulations, and applicable IRB guidelines for clinical research promotion.
Required:
- A Bachelor's degree is essential.
- 7-10 years of experience in public relations, ideally within the healthcare sector.
- Comprehensive understanding of media operations and a proven ability to generate strategic press coverage with major outlets.
- Exceptional writing skills and experience in organizational planning are crucial.
Preferred:
- Experience in video production and managing multiple projects at various stages.
- Proficiency in video editing software such as Premiere Pro and After Effects.
- Background in directing and utilizing technology for video production, including cameras, lighting, and sound.
