This position requires a clinically proficient, registered nurse who effectively manages nursing care for patients with acute conditions through comprehensive assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation processes. The Procedural Staff Nurse collaborates with patients, their families, and the healthcare team, upholding the standards of professional nursing practice.
Key Responsibilities- Gather and evaluate patient data, establish expected outcomes, formulate and execute individualized care plans, and assess progress towards goals.
- Oversee care delivery and determine the appropriate use of support staff involved in direct patient care.
- Engage with patients, families, physicians, and support staff to create a documented care plan that emphasizes communication and collaboration.
- Participate in governance, committee activities, and unit initiatives.
- Assess and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record, tailoring care plans based on evaluation results.
- Utilize the best available evidence, including research findings, to inform clinical decisions.
- Perform the duties of a circulating nurse across various age groups (pediatrics, adolescents, adults, geriatrics).
- Ensure patient identification accuracy by verifying identification bands against chart information.
- Confirm that consent forms are signed and correctly completed, checking medical records for necessary information.
- Prepare the Operating Room by gathering required equipment and supplies for surgical procedures.
- Maintain a safe environment by adhering to aseptic techniques and managing surgical and emergency equipment.
- Assist in preparing the operative site and draping patients according to departmental protocols.
- Monitor patients receiving sedation or anesthesia in accordance with established guidelines.
- Support the safe transfer and positioning of patients during procedures.
- Accurately handle and label specimens as per documentation standards.
- Assist in applying dressings and preparing patients for recovery.
- Initiate emergency measures, such as CPR, when necessary.
- When acting as a scrub nurse, utilize aseptic techniques and prepare instruments for procedures.
- Conduct counts of needles, sponges, and other items as required.
- Adhere to universal precautions and ensure safe disposal of sharps.
- Manage the use of supplies and equipment to minimize waste.
- Assist with the general cleaning of the operating room and prepare for subsequent cases.
Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing for all new hires.
- Current Registered Professional Nurse Licensure in the State of Illinois.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.
Preferred:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR).
- Advanced computer proficiency.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and basic surgical procedures.
- Effective time management and independent work capabilities.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
- Critical thinking abilities and sound judgment.
- Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
- Prior experience with Epic software.
- Experience in a specific clinical area for six months or more.
