Position Summary:

The Healthcare Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the clinical environment, undertaking a variety of responsibilities that assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the guidance of healthcare professionals, including Physicians and Nurse Practitioners. This position involves direct interaction with patients and collaboration with administrative staff, all while adhering to the directives of the Chief Medical Officer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with clinicians to manage patient flow effectively.
  • Assist clinicians by providing necessary medical and laboratory results as required.
  • Guide patients to examination rooms, conduct interviews, measure vital signs (pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and document findings in patient records.
  • Prepare treatment areas for patient examinations.
  • Manage inventory and procurement of medical supplies.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment, including EKG machines, and coordinate scheduling for patient tests.
  • Administer injections and treatments, as well as perform routine laboratory tests.
  • Input data into electronic systems to maintain accurate patient and office records.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of examination rooms in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Sterilize medical instruments following established safety protocols.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures, including universal precautions as outlined by health and safety standards.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with patients and colleagues.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with privacy regulations.
  • Participate in mandatory meetings, training sessions, and educational programs.
  • Ensure compliance with communication regarding patient care plans.
  • Coordinate and manage vaccination programs.
  • Document temperature logs for medical storage units.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and consistent attendance.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Process requests for medical records.
  • Engage in designated quality improvement initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant.
  • Basic CPR certification.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Understanding and promotion of the organization's mission and values.
  • Sensitivity to the diverse needs of a multicultural patient population.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, with the capacity to address patient concerns respectfully.
  • Experience in a clinical or community health setting.

Language Skills:

  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English is required; Spanish proficiency is preferred.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to interpret various forms of instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic formats.

Equipment Utilization: Proficient in using fax machines, copiers, computers, telephones, electronic health record systems, sterilization equipment, and other necessary tools.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this role include the ability to stand, walk, or sit based on daily needs, with an estimated 50% of time spent on feet and 50% seated. Occasional physical activities may include bending, climbing, and lifting up to 20 pounds.

Vision and Hearing Requirements: Constant need to complete forms, read reports, and communicate effectively over the phone and in person.

Travel Requirements: Occasional use of personal transportation for site visits and meetings may be necessary.

Work Environment: The typical noise level in the workplace is moderate.
