Job Summary

The MSAD 17 Oxford Hills School District is seeking an exceptional Special Education Functional Life Skills Teacher to join our team at The Guy E. Rowe Elementary School. This is an exciting opportunity to work with students in a self-contained life skills setting, focusing on functional academics, daily living skills, communication, and participation in inclusive classes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities.
  • Teach functional academics, daily living skills, and communication skills to students in grades 4-6.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure seamless transitions and inclusive learning experiences.
  • Provide support and accommodations to students with disabilities, as outlined in their IEPs.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to ensure student success.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Maine certification 282 or the ability to obtain one with appropriate endorsement(s).
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, particularly those with intellectual disabilities, autism, and other health impairments.
  • Strong knowledge of special education laws and regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
