Position Overview: We are in search of an outstanding Head of Computational Biology to guide our experienced team of computational biologists and data scientists.
This role is crucial for steering some of our most ambitious innovations, grounded in state-of-the-art statistical learning algorithms and probabilistic modeling.
You will thrive in multidisciplinary environments, energized by scientific innovation that has the potential to make a foundational impact on patient care, supported by significant academic and professional accomplishments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Strategy: Lead the computational biology and data science team towards achieving key innovations aligned with Karius' strategic objectives. Cultivate a culture of collaboration, excellence, continuous learning, and constructive feedback among team members.
- Research & Development: Oversee substantial method development projects, contributing to advanced mathematical constructs, particularly in probabilistic modeling. Collaborate closely with medical experts to enhance analytical methodologies aimed at improving care for individuals suffering from infectious diseases.
- Innovation & Execution: Propel the development and publication of methodological advancements that enhance our core product and broaden its application beyond infectious disease diagnostics.
- Communication & Collaboration: Foster partnerships across various teams and departments within Karius and externally. Actively engage with multiple departments, playing a pivotal role at the intersection of computational biology, machine learning, and domain-specific challenges.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Statistics, Genetics, or a related field, with a strong publication record demonstrating significant method development capabilities.
- 7+ years of industry experience leading the development of advanced computational and analytical methods.
- 3+ years of experience managing a senior team of scientists and computational biologists.
- Proficiency in probabilistic modeling, machine learning algorithms, and other mathematical tools.
- Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to convey complex ideas clearly to scientific communities and leadership teams.
