As we face rising challenges, including increased antisemitism and the aftermath of significant events affecting our community, we are in search of a Chief Operating Officer who possesses outstanding operational and strategic acumen.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Direction

  • Collaborate with the CEO and engage with Board members to formulate and execute the Federation's strategic initiatives and operational vision.
  • Oversee the implementation of strategic projects ensuring they align with the Federation's mission and core values.
  • Work alongside the CEO and Board Finance Committee on financial matters, including audits and investment strategies.
  • Enhance organizational capacity, establishing processes that promote operational efficiency and teamwork.
  • Utilize data in partnership with the CEO to assess the Federation's performance in meeting community needs and organizational objectives.
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement throughout the organization.

Operational Oversight

  • Manage the Federation's daily operations, supervising senior staff in finance, IT, data management, and community security.
  • Assist the Director of Finance in maintaining the Federation's budgets and financial controls.
  • Ensure that effective systems and processes are established to support organizational goals.
  • Monitor operational performance, making informed decisions to enhance productivity.
  • Provide leadership to SAFE Washington, the Jewish communal security initiative.

Risk Management

  • Identify and address operational risks to safeguard the Federation's assets and reputation.
  • Develop and enforce policies to manage risks effectively.
  • Negotiate and oversee high-value contracts across the organization.

Human Resources Leadership

  • Design and implement HR policies that promote an inclusive workplace aligned with the Federation's values.
  • Lead the HR function encompassing recruitment, onboarding, development, and employee relations.
  • Establish professional development initiatives to enhance staff capabilities.
  • Define clear roles and responsibilities to foster a high-performing organizational culture.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and maintain updated HR policies.

Community Foundation Management

  • Oversee the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Seattle, managing approximately $75M in funds.
  • Ensure efficient operations and strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Development Director to implement a growth strategy for the Foundation.

Governance

  • Work with the CEO and Development Director to identify and develop lay leaders supporting the Federation's mission.
  • Implement governance best practices in collaboration with the Board Chair.
  • Ensure adherence to governance protocols and support the Board of Directors in their roles.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 10+ years of senior-level experience in finance, operations, HR, and project management.
  • Extensive background in business administration, nonprofit management, or related fields.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to serve as a strategic partner to the CEO.
  • Demonstrated financial management expertise, including budget creation and oversight.
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on data-driven decision-making.

Compensation:

  • Salary Range: $175,000-$195,000, based on experience.
