Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Animal Health Technician II to join our team at the UC Davis Health System. As a key member of our animal care team, you will be responsible for providing technical support for the care and handling of horses, as well as assisting with breeding, quarantine, teaching, and research programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for animal care and handling, including feeding, grooming, and administering medications.
  • Assist with breeding, quarantine, teaching, and research programs, including collecting and processing biological samples.
  • Work closely with veterinarians and other animal care staff to ensure the health and well-being of animals in our care.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of animal behavior, physiology, and nutrition to provide optimal care.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless animal care and handling.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in animal science, biology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in animal care, preferably in a research or academic setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with veterinarians, researchers, and other animal care staff.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to drive a horse trailer.
