Job Summary

Washington University in St. Louis is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Animal Technician II to join our team. The successful candidate will provide and document care and husbandry for multiple animal species in accordance with departmental SOPS and regulations and guidelines of the Animal Welfare Act and the Public Health Service. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to animal welfare and a passion for providing high-quality care to animals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide and document daily husbandry care to multiple species, including rabbits, non-human primates, canines, and rodents, ensuring the provision of feed, water, clean cages, and enrichment.
  • Sanitize and maintain rodent colony rooms according to schedule, including sweeping and mopping animal quarters and procedure rooms, disinfecting all areas in the room, rotating animal cages, cleaning large equipment, and stocking room supplies.
  • Observe animals daily for clinical or behavioral signs of illness and provide treatments as directed by veterinary staff, reporting findings to Supervisor, Facility Manager, or DCM Veterinary staff in a timely fashion.
  • Correctly handle and dispose of hazardous wastes according to standard operating procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as required by supervisor/manager/department, which may include hands-on training of junior-level technicians.
