Position Title: Special Education Support Assistant

Classification: 10-month, hourly, non-exempt

Seton Catholic Schools is a network of K-8 parish schools dedicated to providing quality education in Milwaukee. With 14 schools currently serving around 3,000 students, we are on a path to expand to 24 schools, aiming to serve nearly 8,000 students, establishing Seton as the largest Catholic elementary school network in the nation. Position Overview:

The Special Education Support Assistant will engage directly with designated students, aiding the lead educator in fostering a secure and productive classroom environment while reinforcing academic and social standards. This role is pivotal in promoting student success through tailored and effective delivery of the educational curriculum. The collaboration between the assistant and the lead teacher will enhance individualized instruction and support for various school activities. Furthermore, the assistants will benefit from ongoing professional development and mentorship from school leaders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the teacher during group instruction by circulating throughout the classroom to assess student understanding and ensure engagement.
  • Support the IEP process by providing necessary data and documentation.
  • Deliver focused instruction to students individually or in small groups, particularly in literacy and mathematics.
  • Prepare instructional materials; manage attendance, set up equipment, make copies, create classroom displays, process student paperwork, and document student progress.
  • Contribute to classroom planning by preparing for and occasionally developing lessons and assessments.
  • Provide insights to the lead teacher when preparing for discussions with parents or guardians regarding student progress and behavior.
  • Supervise students during various activities, including specials, meals, recess, and field trips, as assigned.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities in the classroom when the lead teacher is unavailable.
  • Exemplify outstanding character, self-esteem, and self-discipline.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Strong belief in the potential of all children and the mission of Seton Catholic Schools.
  • Ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with students and collaborate effectively with school staff.
  • Proven capacity to adopt a growth mindset and take personal responsibility for professional outcomes.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of students, including varying abilities and needs, is highly preferred.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are highly preferred.
