Milwaukee College Prep is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Special Education Assistant to join our team. As a Special Education Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting our scholars with disabilities in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities- Support Instructional Needs: Assist teachers in meeting the educational, behavioral, and social emotional needs of students with disabilities.
- Provide Individualized Instruction: Deliver small group and/or individualized instruction to scholars with disabilities in accordance with their IEP and the lead teacher's lesson plans.
- Collect and Analyze Data: Gather instructional and behavioral data for all objectives being taught for each student.
- Implement Behavior Intervention Plans: Implement Behavior Intervention Plans for students with disabilities.
- Communicate with Teachers and Parents: Communicate proactively with teachers to inform them of student issues and conversations with parents.
- Assist with Standardized Testing: Assist during standardized testing to support state and local testing processes and policies.
- Prepare Lesson Materials: Assist with daily lesson plan materials (preparing them) and make copies of materials for students (printed or electronic).
- Monitor Student Movement: Monitor movement throughout the building to other classrooms, learning areas, cafeteria, and elsewhere on school grounds.
- Assist with Student Care: Assist students as necessary with physical needs including feeding, toileting, lifting, and mobility.
- Assist with Healthcare Procedures: Assist students with healthcare procedures including hygiene and medications as needed for daily care.
- Assist with Assistive Technology: Assist students with assistive technology devices, including communication devices, switches and orthopedic devices needed for sitting, walking, or standing.
- Engage in Professional Learning: Engage in professional learning opportunities in-person.
- Attend Work Regularly: Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours.
- Education: 60 college credits
- Experience: Prior experience working with children, preferably in a school setting.
- Passion for Education: A passion for making a difference in the lives of children.
- Belief in Student Success: Absolute belief in every child's ability to succeed and tenacity to ensure that success.
- Special Education Aide License: A Special Education Aide License or willingness to acquire one (We will help).
