We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Special Education Assistant to join our team at the United Community Center. The successful candidate will provide educational support to students with special needs, working collaboratively with our teaching staff to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Assist students with special needs in achieving their Individual Education Program (IEP) goals, working closely with the special education teacher to develop and implement effective educational plans.
- Administer assessments and record results, collaborating with special education and classroom teachers to ensure accurate data collection and analysis.
- Support students in developing independent thinking and learning skills, promoting self-advocacy and self-confidence.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, including classroom-level record keeping and data tracking.
- Participate in class field trips and other educational activities, providing support and supervision as needed.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, staying up-to-date with best practices and research in special education.
- Other duties as assigned by the special education teacher or other school administrators.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; special education aide license from the Department of Public Instruction preferred.
- At least one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities in an educational setting, preferably in a special education role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and families.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities, with a strong focus on student needs and outcomes.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
The Special Education Assistant will work in a moderate noise level environment, with occasional stairs and walking required. The position may also involve outdoor monitoring in various weather conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to help perform essential functions.
