RESPONSIBILITIES:

Youth Education Navigator Job Responsibilities:

  • Stay informed about job center and workforce program offerings and services.
  • Conduct personalized sessions with clients to clarify eligibility criteria and registration processes for workforce programs.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive database of community resources, both internal and external, and develop a referral system.
  • Engage in outreach initiatives to educate clients about program options, rights, responsibilities, and relevant eligibility information.
  • Support clients in achieving educational goals.
  • Foster partnerships with local high schools.
  • Assist youth in re-enrolling in high school if they have previously dropped out or relocated.
  • Explore alternative educational pathways for students outside the traditional public school system.
  • Aid youth in enrolling in and completing GED/HSED programs, as needed. If the youth is a teen parent, help them find appropriate childcare resources.
  • Build and sustain relationships with educational institutions and programs based on community needs and trends.
  • Mediate student conflicts and facilitate problem-solving strategies, including leading social skills groups aimed at promoting positive behavior.

Provide supportive services, including but not limited to:

  • Technology resources such as laptops/tablets and mobile internet/hotspots.
  • Transportation assistance.
  • Educational incentives (e.g., gift cards).
  • Basic school supplies (e.g., notebooks, folders, writing instruments, backpacks).
  • Essential materials for school attendance (e.g., clothing/uniforms, winter wear).
  • Home study materials (e.g., desks, lamps, chairs, headphones, webcams, whiteboards).

* Identify connections to resources and services tailored to specific needs.

* Collaborate with case managers and educational partners to evaluate youth and determine suitable educational options and support resources (e.g., mentoring, literacy/ESL, tutoring programs).

* Assist students facing academic, attendance, or behavioral challenges and guide parents and students in finding necessary services (e.g., counseling, resource referrals) to enhance student success.

* Responsible for documenting all relevant participant information in various systems, including WWP and ECF.

* Support individuals with disabilities in accessing job center and workforce program services, including specialized equipment.

* Exhibit exceptional customer service skills while addressing client concerns and barriers.

* Connect youth with resources for vocational training, college, technical school, or employment opportunities.

* Act as the primary educational liaison and coordinator for youth, staff, partners, and community organizations.

* Identify and link youth to resources such as Boys and Girls Clubs, Youth Build, and other supportive services.

* Connect youth with programs that provide essential life skills training, including financial literacy, household management, family planning, communication, time management, decision-making, and leadership.

OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Youth Education Navigator Job Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma (or equivalent) supplemented by two years of relevant post-secondary education in human services or a related field. Note: additional years of work experience in a relevant field can substitute for one year of education.

Note:
  • At least two years of experience in one or a combination of the following: instructional aide, vocational technician, career counseling technician, or similar services. Note: additional years of post-secondary education in a relevant field can substitute for one year of experience.

* Familiarity with job center and workforce program functions, including eligibility requirements, services, and processes.

* Preferred experience with Special Education Programming, Individualized Education Plan Assessment Process, Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, truancy issues, and dropout prevention strategies.

* Strong oral and written communication skills, along with problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

* Knowledge of internal and external community resources.

* Proficiency in computer programs and strong organizational skills.

* Understanding of the educational needs of culturally and linguistically diverse populations that are economically disadvantaged.

* Bilingual in English and any other language is preferred.

* Must possess a vehicle and adequate auto liability insurance.
