Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Prevention Engineer to join our team at the National Guard Employment Network. As a key member of our organization, you will serve as a technical advisor and subject matter expert in fire protection engineering, ensuring compliance with fire prevention and life safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan Review and Approval: Conduct thorough reviews and approvals of construction and structural plans to ensure compliance with fire prevention and life safety codes.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical engineering expertise and code consulting services to internal staff, developers, architects, and contractors on the interpretation and application of fire prevention codes.
  • Code Compliance: Evaluate alternatives and solutions to complex fire code interpretations and provide recommendations to ensure code compliance.
  • Audit and Review: Conduct audits of plans approved by internal and external plan examiners to ensure compliance with fire prevention codes.
  • Code Development: Review and recommend amendments to fire prevention codes to ensure they remain current and effective.
  • Representation: Represent the organization in meetings, conferences, and technical seminars to provide input on fire prevention codes and life safety regulations.
  • Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with emerging fire protection trends and best practices to ensure our codes and regulations remain current.
  • Site Reviews: Conduct site reviews of new projects and developments to ensure adequate water supply, water distribution systems, fire hydrant availability, and emergency access.
  • Fire Alarm Testing: Conduct on-site reviews of completed construction projects to test fire alarm equipment for proper operation prior to building occupancy.
  • Mobile Food Vehicle Review: Review and approve fire suppression system plans for all mobile food vehicles.
  • Hydrant Coordination: Coordinate with the Department of Water Management to determine the placement and removal of city fire hydrants.
  • Correspondence: Respond to all correspondence related to plan reviews and fire prevention codes.
  • Specialized Inspections: Assist with specialized and complex inspections and reviews as needed.
  • Reporting: Prepare various management, technical, and ad hoc reports.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical Engineering, or a directly related area of engineering.
  • Licensure: Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Illinois is required.
  • Driver's License: Valid State of Illinois driver's license is required.
