Position Overview

The Chief Psychiatric Officer is accountable for leading behavioral health initiatives within the health plan, ensuring that comprehensive medical policies are established to deliver optimal and cost-effective care for members.

This role involves close collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer to enhance program development, oversee staff leadership, and integrate healthcare services effectively, aiming to improve health outcomes, quality metrics, and resource utilization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluate current policies and contribute to the formulation of new guidelines in response to evolving healthcare standards.
  2. Direct and implement both clinical and administrative strategies that influence healthcare quality, costs, and patient outcomes.
  3. Identify and foster innovative solutions to enhance service effectiveness and quality.
  4. Act as a consultant and resource for various departments, participate in company committees, and represent the organization in external engagements.
  5. Collaborate with physical health medical directors to elevate healthcare quality and provide behavioral health insights.
  6. Support medical management teams to ensure prompt and consistent communication with members and providers.
  7. Engage with service providers, members, advocacy groups, and other behavioral health leaders to uphold the organization’s values.
  8. Participate actively in state-level meetings overseeing the Managed Medicaid program.
  9. Possess a strong understanding of NCQA accreditation processes, particularly HEDIS measures, and strive for continuous improvement in these areas.
  10. Utilize data analysis to drive quality enhancement, care management, and resource utilization, influencing provider practices.

Qualifications:

Must hold an M.D. or D.O. degree.

Board certification in Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology is required.

An active, unrestricted medical license to practice in the relevant state is essential.

A minimum of 10 years of clinical experience or a combination of education and experience that provides a comparable background is necessary.

Skills and Certifications:

Possession of an M.D. or D.O. degree.

Board certification in Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology is mandatory.

An active, unrestricted medical license is required.

At least 10 years of clinical experience is expected.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

Experience in managed care or with behavioral health contractors is preferred.

Background in general psychiatry, including clinical and leadership roles, is advantageous.

Preferred Experience:

Previous employment with organizations such as Centene, United, Aetna, or private practices is desirable.

Local candidates from Louisiana are preferred, but those willing to relocate and obtain a Louisiana medical license will also be considered.
