Job Overview

The Safety and Security Officer is responsible for the strategic planning, development, execution, and management of safety and security initiatives within the organization. This role requires flexibility to work various shifts and days due to the nature of a 24/7 operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties Include:

  • Enforcing compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Conducting regular foot patrols to monitor assigned areas for disturbances, safety hazards, and suspicious activities.
  • Providing assistance to visitors, staff, and students to ensure a safe environment.
  • Performing security and safety inspections of facilities.
  • Addressing complaints and conducting thorough investigations as necessary.
  • Facilitating transportation services when required.
  • Investigating incidents such as vehicle accidents within the facility.
  • Issuing visitor access passes and temporary parking permits.
  • Managing entrance security duties effectively.
  • Supporting staff in managing disturbances and ensuring safety.
  • Documenting incidents and preparing detailed reports as needed.
  • Overseeing the recruitment, selection, and training of security personnel.
  • Participating in the development and enforcement of safety and fire prevention protocols.
  • Conducting daily briefings with security staff regarding assignments and procedures.
  • Providing comprehensive reports and updates to management.
  • Ensuring the maintenance and functionality of all security equipment.
  • Monitoring vehicle traffic entering and exiting the premises.
  • Adhering to property control policies and maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Upholding the organization’s standards and policies consistently.
  • Assisting in the security and accountability of students during various activities.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Essential Skills:

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Professional demeanor and the ability to build rapport with colleagues and stakeholders.

Experience and Education:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in security, law enforcement, military, or a related field is required.
  • Prior experience in a residential or youth program setting is preferred.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory; an associate degree is advantageous.

Computer proficiency, including familiarity with security systems and basic software applications, is essential.
