Job Summary

The Bizzell Group is seeking a highly motivated and organized Residential Advisor to provide paraprofessional level of student support and performance duties for an orderly operation of the dormitory program. This is an on-call position, and work is on an as-needed basis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise students to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Provide substitute and/or call-in services of a residential advisor.
  • Ensure orderly, clean living conditions by scheduling and supervising, and participating in dorm clean up and submitting repair requests.
  • Provide supervision for the cafeteria, laundry, special activities (on and off Center) and other areas of the program as scheduled or assigned.
  • Identify and assist students in handling special problems and conduct dormitory meetings.
  • Maintain individual records for each student that contain, at a minimum, basic identifying information, including emergency contacts, and written parental consent (minors) for weekend passes to approved destinations.
  • Assist students in developing long- and short-term personal and independent living goals and document same on the students' PCDP.
  • Participate in the timely evaluation of student progress and update PCPD goals when students are not meeting CSS expectations.
  • Maintain communication with students' counselors, instructors, and with other staff members.
  • Attend staff in-service training sessions and other training or meetings as directed.
  • Establish a close working relationship with students, dealing justly and impartially regardless of their ability, achievement or background, and work to motivate them toward goals.
  • Initiate and direct dormitory programs, utilizing Center services and activities to benefit students.
  • Follow all non-health standing orders.
  • Transport students to various activities and events as needed.
  • Maintain an environment wherein students and staff feel safe and secure.
  • Maintain logbooks as directed and authorized that show activity during shift.
  • Ensure case notes and other entries in CIS are accurate and up to date. Secure students' personal property/items when a student is absent for 24 hours; all items are to be placed in property and logged.
  • Submit time sheets according to center policy.
  • Assist and train student leaders per center policy.
  • Participate in intramural programs.
  • Ensure students meet their evening schedule.
  • Provide support for safety and security on center.
  • Ensure that buildings are secure and clean at all times.
  • Conduct periodic checks and maintain order and discipline in his/her assigned dorm.
  • Work towards meeting performance management goals.
  • Follow the CDSS plan and Standards of Conduct system.
  • Comply with all DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulations, Job Corps notices and bulletins and Center policies and procedures. Maintain good housekeeping in all areas and comply with safety practices.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings.
  • Model, mentor, and monitor appropriate career success skills.
  • Help students become more employable through continuous reinforcement of independent living skills.
  • Participate in PRH mandated staff training. Failure to participate may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Minimum one year working with youth or related experience and/or training.
  • Proficiency with advanced Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Computer Literacy with basic computer functions, email, internet, and basic programs such as Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional and collaborative relationships with students.
  • Knowledge of residential living and dormitory procedures and practices.
  • High level of communication, interpersonal, and organization skills.
