Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Public Works to join our team at the City of York. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to the Public Works Department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to our citizens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide management and supervision of the department, including attending meetings, meeting with managers and staff, and making and returning phone calls regarding issues.
  • Provide project management, including attending projects and construction meetings, reviewing construction plans and drawings, and supervising and monitoring on-site.
  • Participate in board, commission, authority, and committee work, including attending meetings to represent the City and the Department, participating in projects, and providing direction and coordinating support of the Department.
  • Prepare and review the budget, including coordinating and preparing the final Department budget for presentation, monitoring budget revenue and expenditures, and prioritizing expenditures.
  • Write and develop grants, including monitoring existing grants and ensuring compliance with grant requirements, seeking reimbursements for grants, and continually seeking new grant opportunities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or construction management.
  • Minimum of five years of management experience, including supervising and monitoring performance for a group of subordinates within a department.
  • Valid Class C driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Ability to read literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents.
  • Ability to apply fundamental concepts of theories, work with advanced mathematical operations methods, and functions of real and complex variables.
