Job Overview

The Senior Pipeline Operations Technician is responsible for executing the essential tasks necessary for the effective operation and upkeep of compressor stations and pipeline infrastructure within Berkshire Hathaway Energy.

This role encompasses a diverse range of technical responsibilities across a vast interstate natural gas pipeline network. The technician will focus on one or more specialized areas of expertise, including:
  • Controls: Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of programmable logic controllers, human-machine interfaces, motor control centers, and both medium and low voltage power distribution systems, along with pneumatic control devices essential for pipeline operations.
  • Measurement: Engage in programming, maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting gas measurement apparatus such as gas meters, control valves, relief valves, regulators, and related software, while also overseeing gas quality control equipment.
  • Corrosion: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot corrosion protection systems to ensure the integrity of pipelines. NACE CP1 Tester certification is preferred.
  • Liquefied Natural Gas Operations: Ensure the reliable operation and maintenance of processes necessary for the production of liquefied natural gas.
  • Underground Storage Operations: Guarantee the dependable operation and maintenance of systems for storing and delivering natural gas from subterranean reservoirs.
  • Compressor Station Operations: Maintain the operational reliability of compressor station equipment.
  • Pipeline Maintenance: Conduct pigging operations, implement damage prevention strategies, and maintain pipeline right-of-way.
  • Equipment Operation: Transport, inspect, maintain, and operate various heavy mobile equipment, including backhoes, boom trucks, semi-trucks, dump trucks, excavators, and skid loaders. Additional endorsements for hazardous materials and liquefied natural gas transportation may be available.
  • Welding: Ensure pipeline welders are qualified in API 1104 and ASME standards for natural gas pipelines, while structural welders must adhere to AWS standards.
  • Environmental Compliance: Uphold environmental standards and regulatory compliance for assigned locations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in executing scheduled preventative maintenance on operational equipment at the designated facility.
  • Identify and respond to abnormal operating conditions.
  • Support emergency response initiatives.
  • Oversee third-party excavation and line crossings, ensuring pipeline locations are accurately identified and pipeline markers are installed and inspected.
  • Operate various work equipment, including power tools, hand tools, and specialized instruments used in pipeline operations, maintenance, and facility repairs.
  • Maintain compliance with specifications, codes, safety, and environmental standards, as well as company operating procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records in accordance with state, federal, and company requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure work is completed following established safety practices and reporting protocols.
Qualifications

The Senior Pipeline Operations Technician is expected to possess a comprehensive skill set to effectively operate and maintain pipeline facilities. The technician will be adept in one or more of the following technical areas:
  • Controls: Expertise in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of control systems.
  • Measurement: Proficient in managing gas measurement equipment and quality control systems.
  • Corrosion: Knowledgeable in corrosion protection techniques and certifications.
  • Liquefied Natural Gas Operations: Familiarity with LNG production processes.
  • Underground Storage Operations: Understanding of natural gas storage and delivery systems.
  • Compressor Station Operations: Experience in compressor station equipment management.
  • Pipeline Maintenance: Skilled in pipeline maintenance and damage prevention.
  • Equipment Operation: Competent in operating heavy mobile equipment.
  • Welding: Qualified in relevant welding standards.
  • Environmental Compliance: Committed to maintaining environmental and regulatory standards.
