Job Overview

The Senior Pipeline Operations Technician is responsible for executing the necessary tasks to effectively manage and sustain the compressor stations and pipeline infrastructures of Berkshire Hathaway Energy.

Pipeline Technicians are versatile professionals who engage in intricate technical operations across a designated region on one of the largest interstate natural gas pipeline networks in the United States. Roles will focus on one or more of the following specialized technical areas:
  • Controls: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers, human-machine interfaces, motor control centers, and both medium and low voltage power distribution systems along with pneumatic control devices essential for pipeline functions.
  • Measurement: Program, maintain, operate, and troubleshoot gas measurement instruments including gas meters, control valves, relief valves, regulators, and related software, while also overseeing gas quality control mechanisms.
  • Corrosion: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot corrosion protection systems to uphold pipeline integrity. NACE CP1 Tester certification is preferred.
  • Liquefied Natural Gas Operations: Ensure the dependable operation and upkeep of processes necessary for the production of liquefied natural gas.
  • Underground Storage Operations: Guarantee reliable functioning and maintenance of systems required for the storage and distribution of natural gas from subterranean reservoirs.
  • Compressor Station Operations: Ensure the consistent operation of compressor station machinery.
  • Pipeline Maintenance: Conduct pigging operations, implement damage prevention strategies, and maintain pipeline right-of-way.
  • Equipment Operation: Transport, inspect, maintain, and operate various heavy mobile equipment, including backhoes, boom trucks, semi-trucks, dump trucks, excavators, and skid loaders. Additional endorsements for hazardous materials and liquefied natural gas transport may be available.
  • Welding: Pipeline welders must meet qualifications in API 1104 and ASME standards for welding on natural gas pipelines, while structural welders must comply with AWS standards.
  • Environmental Compliance: Uphold environmental standards, manage environmental activities, and ensure regulatory compliance for designated locations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in executing scheduled preventative maintenance on operational equipment at the assigned facility.
  • Identify and respond to abnormal operating conditions.
  • Support emergency response initiatives.
  • Locate pipelines and supervise third-party excavation and line crossings. Install and verify pipeline markers.
  • Operate work equipment, including power tools, hand tools, and specialized instruments used in pipeline operations, maintenance, and facility repairs.
  • Maintain and operate facilities in accordance with specifications, codes, safety, and environmental standards, as well as company procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining records as per required state, federal, and company protocols.
  • Review work assignments with the team to ensure completion in line with established safety practices and reporting protocols.
Qualifications
